Negative News Removal: Remove Articles and Press Coverage About You
A negative news removal service for executives, professionals and businesses whose name returns an article they cannot shake. We assess the piece and the outlet, pursue corrections, unpublishing, de-indexing and legal routes where the story qualifies, and suppress what cannot come down. Honest odds before you commit, and an NDA with every client.

Who Asks for Negative News Removal?
The same situations come up in every country we work in. If yours is on the list, the assessment will tell you which of the routes below applies to it.
Executives and founders
A lawsuit, a dismissal or a failed venture reported years ago that still sits on page one for your name when an investor, a board or a recruiter searches it.
Doctors, lawyers and licensed professionals
A complaint, a disciplinary hearing or a malpractice claim that was dismissed or resolved, but whose coverage was never updated to say so.
People acquitted or with charges dropped
An arrest report or court story written on the day, with no follow-up when the charges were dropped, the case was dismissed or the verdict was not guilty.
Businesses after a one-off incident
A product recall, a data breach, a regulator's notice or a local-news story about a single incident that now defines the company in search.
People named in someone else's story
Witnesses, relatives, former employees and bystanders named in an article about an event they had no part in causing.
What does not qualify
Accurate reporting on a matter of public interest about a public figure. No outlet will unpublish it and no court will order it down. Suppression is the only honest route, and we say so at the assessment.
How the Negative News Removal Engagement Works
Four stages, with your approval before any work starts. The assessment comes first because the article and the outlet decide which routes are realistic.
Assessment of the article and the outlet
A specialist reads the piece, checks it for errors and outdated facts, reviews the outlet's corrections and unpublishing policies, and maps every copy of the story across syndication partners and aggregators.
Honest odds and a quote
You receive a private report that says which routes apply, what each is likely to achieve, and what the work will cost. Nothing starts until you approve it, and the assessment carries no obligation.
The work
Correction and unpublishing requests to the editor, de-indexing and Google removal requests, legal notices with our legal partners where a case needs them, takedowns of copies, and suppression on anything that stays.
Monitoring
Your name is watched after the work so a republished copy, a new aggregator scrape or a cached result is dealt with quickly instead of resurfacing months later.
The Seven Routes to Remove a Negative News Article
Negative news removal almost never means asking Google to delete the article. Google removes search results, not web pages, and its own policy says newsworthy content may stay. What works is choosing the right route for the article in front of you. Our explainer, can you remove a news article from Google search? Seven options, walks through each route in detail. Here is how we apply them on an engagement.
1. Correction or update by the publisher
The least expensive route and the most underused. If the article contains a factual error, the outlet's corrections desk is obliged by its own standards to fix it. If the story was accurate when written but has moved on, an update line changes the headline, the snippet and what AI summaries repeat. We prepare the request with evidence and send it to the right editor, not a general inbox.
2. Unpublishing requests to the editor
Many outlets in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom now have formal unpublishing or "right to be forgotten"-style policies, under which a reader can ask for an old story to be removed or anonymized. The strongest cases are stories that are outdated, resolved, inaccurate, about charges that were dropped, or about someone who was a minor at the time. We write the request to match the outlet's own policy, propose the smallest change the editor can accept, and escalate when a desk ignores it.
3. De-indexing
An outlet that will not delete an article will often agree to tag it so search engines stop listing it. The page stays live for anyone with the link but disappears from a search on your name. Google separately accepts requests to refresh or drop results for pages that have changed or been removed, and removes certain personal information from Search under its own policy, such as home addresses, ID numbers and financial details.
4. Legal routes
Where an article is defamatory, publishes private information unlawfully or breaches a court order, a legal notice to the publisher and, where applicable, a court order can compel removal or de-indexing. Google processes court orders through its legal removal route. In the United Kingdom and the European Union, individuals can also ask Google to delist search results for their name under the right to be forgotten, which weighs the person's privacy against the public interest in the story. There is no equivalent in the United States, where the routes are the publisher's policy, defamation law and suppression. We work legal cases with our legal partners; nothing here is legal advice.
5. Copyright and syndication copies
A story that was corrected or unpublished at the source often survives on wire copies, aggregator sites and scrapers. Each copy needs its own request, and the original publisher can sometimes send a kill notice to its syndication partners. Where a copy reproduces a photograph, a press release or other material you own, a copyright takedown is available for that material.
6. Suppression when nothing qualifies
Most negative news is accurate, newsworthy and hosted by a publisher who will not budge. The article stays; what changes is where it ranks. Suppression builds and promotes accurate, authoritative content about you, your own site, professional profiles, recent coverage and verified listings, until the story drops below the results people read. Our negative search result removal page explains the method.
7. Crisis handling while the story is live
If the article was published this week and is still being shared, removal is the wrong first move. The priority is to stop a second story, prepare a statement, and manage the response across press and social channels. Our crisis management service handles that phase; the removal and suppression work starts once the coverage has settled.
Negative Article Removal Beyond the News
The same routes apply to content that is not journalism. Blog posts and opinion pieces are often hosted on platforms with their own content policies, which adds a reporting route the publisher of a news story does not have. Listicles such as "worst companies to work for" can be corrected or updated when the underlying facts have changed. Aggregator copies and scraped versions of an article are handled separately from the original and are usually easier to remove, because the aggregator has no editorial stake in the story.
"Remove My Name From a News Article": Anonymization Requests
A full takedown is the hardest ask and a name redaction is often accepted instead. Many editors will replace a name with a description, remove a photograph or drop the surname from a headline when the subject was a private individual, the matter is resolved, or the person was a minor. The article stays but no longer appears for a search on your name, which for most people is the outcome that matters. We make anonymization the fallback ask in every unpublishing request.
Country-Specific Routes
Which routes apply depends partly on where the outlet publishes and where you live. The right to be forgotten exists in the United Kingdom and the European Union but not in the United States, where publisher unpublishing policies and defamation law carry more weight. Our country pages for the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, the UAE and Europe set out the routes for each market. For individuals, this work usually sits inside a broader personal reputation management engagement; for companies, it is one part of our online reputation management services.
What We Do Not Do
We do not guarantee that an article will come down; the editor, Google or the court decides. We do not post comments under the story, flood the web with thin pages to bury it, or claim publisher relationships we do not have. Every engagement starts with a private assessment, you approve the quote before any work begins, and the engagement is covered by an NDA.
Why Choose Online Reputation Manage for Negative News Removal?
Assessment Before Any Promise
We read the article and the outlet's policies before telling you what is realistic, and we say plainly when suppression is the only route.
Legal Partners Where Needed
Defamation notices, court orders and right to be forgotten requests are handled with our legal partners when a case calls for them.
The Editor, Not a Form
Correction and unpublishing requests go to the right desk, written to the outlet's own policy, with the smallest acceptable change proposed.
Copies Handled Too
Syndication copies, aggregators and scrapers are mapped at the assessment and worked alongside the original.
Confidential by Default
Every enquiry is confidential and every engagement is covered by an NDA, so the removal effort never becomes its own story.
Suppression That Holds
When an article stays, the content built to outrank it is accurate and durable, not a burst of thin pages that search engines discount.
Monitoring After the Work
Your name is watched so a republished or scraped copy is handled before it ranks again.
