Remove or Suppress Harmful Reddit Posts About You or Your Business

Reddit post removal is the work of getting threads and comments that break Reddit's content policy, a subreddit's rules or the law taken down through the routes Reddit actually honors, and pushing the ones that stay out of the search results people see. Since Google began surfacing Reddit heavily, a single thread can sit on page one for your name for years. We assess every thread, work the routes that qualify, and are honest about the rest.

Which Reddit Posts Have a Removal Route

Reddit removes content that breaks its sitewide content policy, moderators remove content that breaks their subreddit's rules, and the author can delete their own post. Everything else stays. These are the cases with a real route.

Doxxing and personal information

Posting a home address, phone number, personal email, workplace location, license plate or private documents breaks Reddit's rule against sharing personal information. This is the strongest route and Reddit's admins act on it directly.

Harassment and targeted abuse

Threads whose purpose is to bully, threaten or intimidate a specific person, or that organize others to do so, breach the content policy. A thread that is merely critical does not.

Impersonation

An account pretending to be you, your company or an employee, including fake "official" responses and AMAs, is reportable under Reddit's impersonation rule.

Stolen content

Your photos, internal documents, product images or copy posted without permission can be reported through Reddit's copyright route, which does not depend on a moderator's opinion.

Subreddit rule breaches

Most subreddits ban naming private individuals, witch hunts, brigading, spam and off-topic posts. A post that breaks those rules can be removed by the moderators even when Reddit's sitewide policy allows it.

Defamation with a court finding

A thread stating something false as fact can be taken to the courts against the author. Reddit has a legal request route for court orders, which is slow but real.

How Reddit Post Removal Works

Four stages, nothing promised before the assessment shows what is realistic, and you approve the quote before any work starts.

1

Assessment

You share the thread, or the name people search for. A specialist reads the post and the comments, maps them against Reddit's content policy and the subreddit's own rules, and checks where the thread ranks on Google. You get a private assessment with honest odds.

2

Quote and approval

You receive a fixed quote covering the reports that qualify and, where the thread will stay, the suppression work. Nothing starts until you approve it, and every engagement is covered by an NDA.

3

Reports, moderators and the legal route

We file the right report through the right door: the subreddit's moderators for rule breaches, Reddit's report form for sitewide policy, the personal information route for doxxing, copyright for stolen content, and our legal partners for defamation where a case needs it.

4

Suppression and monitoring

For threads that stay, we build and strengthen the pages that should outrank them for your name, track the thread's position every month, and watch for new posts and reposts.

What Reddit Allows and What It Removes

Reddit posts are governed by a sitewide content policy that is short. It prohibits harassment and bullying, threats of violence, sharing someone's personal or confidential information (doxxing), impersonation of a person or entity, non-consensual intimate media, content that sexualizes minors, illegal content and transactions, and breaking the site through spam or vote manipulation. Reddit's own staff, the admins, enforce that policy across the whole site.

Everything below that line is decided subreddit by subreddit. Each community has volunteer moderators with their own rules, and those rules are often stricter than Reddit's: many subreddits forbid naming private people, posting screenshots of DMs, witch hunts and calls to brigade. Moderators can remove any post or comment in their community for any reason. They cannot remove content in other subreddits, and they cannot see or act on anything outside their own community.

That split explains most of what happens next. A thread calling your company a scam is not, by itself, against Reddit's content policy. It may be against the subreddit's rules. If it is not against either, only the author can delete it, and a deleted post leaves its comments standing.

The Report Routes, in Order of Strength

  • Subreddit rules: report the post to the moderators, citing the rule it breaks, or message the moderators directly through modmail with the context. Moderators respond to specific, polite, rule-based requests and ignore demands.
  • Reddit's report form: for sitewide policy breaches (harassment, threats, impersonation, spam). Admin review takes longer than moderator review and the bar is higher.
  • Personal information: the doxxing route for posts that expose addresses, phone numbers, private documents or identities. This is the route Reddit acts on most reliably, and it is where many "negative" threads about a person actually fall. Read our guide to what counts as doxxing and what to do about it.
  • Legal requests: Reddit accepts legal removal requests, including court orders finding content defamatory, through a dedicated route. In the United States the claim itself runs against the author, not Reddit, so this route usually means a case against the poster first. Our legal partners handle this where a case needs it.
  • Copyright: a takedown notice for your own photos, documents or copy posted without permission. It is handled by a process, not a moderator's judgment, and it removes the stolen material, not the discussion around it.

Why Most Negative Reddit Threads Cannot Be Removed

Reddit's culture and its policy both protect opinion and first-hand accounts. A customer saying your product failed them, an ex-employee describing a bad year, a thread of people comparing notes on a company: none of that breaks a rule, and reporting it as "false" or "damaging" gets nowhere. Moderators also tend to react badly to businesses pressuring them, and a clumsy removal attempt can become its own thread.

So we start every case with a plain answer. If a thread qualifies under one of the routes above, we work it. If it does not, we say so and move to suppression, because that is where most Reddit cases are won.

Reddit on Google: Why Suppression Matters

Google has surfaced Reddit threads far more prominently since 2024, with a "Discussions and forums" block in many results and Reddit pages ranking for product, company and personal name searches they never ranked for before. A thread with a handful of upvotes can outrank your own website for your own name. Removal fixes that for the posts that qualify. For the rest, the fix is to change what Google shows: strengthening the pages that should rank for your name, building new ones that earn their place, and tracking the thread's position every month until it sits below the results people actually click. That is the same work as our negative search results service, applied to a Reddit thread, and it is how we handled the viral "scam" thread in this case study.

The Honest Approach

We never astroturf. No fake accounts, no planted comments, no paid upvotes, no sockpuppets arguing your case in the thread. Reddit detects it, bans it, and the exposure is far worse than the original post. What works instead:

  • Removal where policy or law supports it, filed through the right door with the evidence attached.
  • A single, transparent, flaired or clearly identified response from the business where the subreddit allows it, and silence where it does not.
  • Reputation building outside Reddit: reviews, press, your own content, so that Google has better pages to show.

Reddit threads are usually one piece of a larger picture that includes review sites and news. Our negative review removal service covers the review platforms, and for an individual whose name is the search term, personal reputation management treats the whole result page.

Reddit Post Removal Questions

Can you guarantee a Reddit post will be removed?
No, and nobody honest can. Only Reddit's admins, the subreddit's moderators or the author can remove a post, and they act only when it breaks the content policy, the subreddit's rules or the law. What we guarantee is a straight assessment: which posts have a route, the odds for each, and what suppression can do for the rest, before you approve a quote.
Can you delete a Reddit thread about my company?
Only Reddit, a moderator or the author can delete it. We work the routes that qualify: moderator reports for rule breaches, Reddit's report form for sitewide policy, the personal information route for doxxing, copyright for stolen content, and the legal route for defamation. A thread that is negative but within the rules stays, and we move to suppression.
Why will Reddit not remove a thread that is clearly false?
Reddit's content policy does not have a rule against inaccuracy, and moderators are not fact-checkers. A false statement of fact is a defamation matter against the author, and Reddit's legal route accepts court orders rather than assertions. In practice most "false" threads are handled through suppression and a transparent response, with the legal route reserved for serious, provable harm.
What if the post includes my address or private information?
That is doxxing, and it is the route Reddit acts on most reliably. Report it under the personal information rule with the exact comment links; the admins can remove it and act against the account. We file these fast, because the longer the information sits, the more it gets copied.
If the author deletes the post, does the thread disappear?
Not entirely. Deleting a post removes the title and body, but the comments remain visible, and the thread can still rank on Google under its old title for a while. Screenshots and reposts also survive. That is why removal and suppression usually run together.
Should I reply in the thread myself?
Sometimes, once, and only if the subreddit allows businesses to respond. A short, factual, clearly identified reply can change how readers weigh the thread. Arguing, posting from a fake account or asking friends to comment makes it worse, and Reddit users are quick to expose it. We advise on whether and how to respond before you post anything.
How long does it take?
It depends on the route. Moderator action on a clear rule breach can be quick; admin and legal routes take longer; suppression is monthly work until the thread sits where it no longer matters. We give you a realistic timeline per route in the assessment rather than a single promise.
Do you use fake accounts or upvotes to bury a thread?
Never. Reddit detects vote manipulation and sockpuppets, bans the accounts, and the attempt becomes its own story. Our suppression work happens outside Reddit, in the search results: building and strengthening the pages that should rank for your name until the thread falls below them.
